Investigation and Management of Acute Transfusion Reactions – open for public consultation

This may be of interest to members.

The National Blood Authority (NBA) has developed draft guidance for the Investigation and Management of Acute Transfusion Reactions which is now open for public consultation on their website until Friday 2nd July 2021.

The guidance is an adaptation of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) Guideline of the same name published in 2012. The guidance has been amended to take into consideration its currency and applicability to the Australian setting. The guidance is intended as a resource for clinical staff for the recognition and management of symptoms and signs related to transfusion reactions. It provides guidance on investigation of transfusion-related adverse events and haemovigilance reporting. The document includes a flowchart to aid recognition of acute transfusion reactions and their immediate clinical management.

The guidance, flowchart, and feedback template is available on the NBA website at http://www.blood.gov.au/public-consultation.
