Dear ANZSBT Members,
Please find attached for ANZSBT member consultation, a draft ANZSBT Position Statement on the Prevention of Transfusion-Transmitted Cytomegalovirus (CMV), together with the underpinning systematic review, which has been accepted for publication in Vox Sanguinis (publication pending).
The systematic review is provided to members to support review of the evidence base informing the draft position statement. Please note that the manuscript is subject to copyright under a CC BY-NC-ND licence. It is shared for the purpose of member consultation and must not be redistributed, adapted, or used for commercial purposes.
The attached draft position statement reflects the proposed ANZSBT consensus based on the systematic review, haemovigilance data, pre-clinical evidence, and review of international guidance. Member feedback is now sought to ensure the statement is accurate, balanced, and clinically appropriate across Australia and New Zealand transfusion practice. Comments are welcome on clarity, interpretation of the evidence, scope of recommendations, and implementation considerations.
Consultation period:
Members are invited to provide written feedback within 4 weeks of the date of this email. To ensure all comments can be considered, please submit feedback by 27th of February.
All feedback will be reviewed by the Clinical Transfusion Practice Committee and considered in finalising the position statement prior to endorsement.
Thank you for your engagement with this important work and for your contribution to ANZSBT’s evidence-based guidance.
Kind regards,
Dr Bryony Ross
Chair, Clinical Transfusion Practice Committee
Australian & New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion
