Bequests

Including a gift in your Will for ANZSBT is an empowering way of creating long-lasting change for the on-going development of transfusion medicine and science. Thanks to generous gifts from our sponsors, we’ve been able to make a difference in the lives of the general community, patients, expectant mothers, infants, and anyone who requires a transfusion.

When you include a gift in your Will for ANZSBT, you can create a life-changing legacy which can help transform the world of transfusion medicine. Your gift can be used to support ANZSBT’s many programs both here in Australia and overseas. For example, your gift can be used to fund research into transfusion, promote education about transfusion, increase the writing of transfusion guidelines which are adopted by health professionals who use them as a guide for better transfusion practice, increase the offer of PhD scholarships and advance advocacy and best practice in transfusion.

Writing your Will

When making or revising your Will we strongly recommend that you seek the advice of a solicitor who is qualified in preparing Wills.

You can leave a bequest by writing a new Will, or by adding a codicil (an addition) to your existing Will. After taking care of family and loved ones, and after payment of any outstanding debts including funeral expenses, you can choose to leave a gift as follows:

  1. Specific Sum of Money. This form of gift allows you to leave a specific amount of money. Remember that a specific amount of money will lose its value over time because of inflation. Therefore, if you want your gift to retain its original value over time you will need to include a clause in your Will that allows for inflation.
  2. Residuary GiftA residuary gift is the remainder of your Estate after considering your loved ones, and expenses have been deducted. This gift is commonly stated as a percentage of the residue.A residuary gift is by far the most popular choice because it allows you to look after your family and friends, before you choose charities in a way that maintains relative value over time.
